Braddywine Sudduth
Brandywine (Sudduth strain) is a 75-day indeterminate variety producing 1-2 pound tomatoes. This famous heirloom has a luscious flavor and a buttery smooth texture. It is very rich, delicately spicy, and complex in flavor. It has deep pink skin and smooth, red flesh. It is a tomato against which all others are measured. It is proclaimed by many to be the best tasting tomato in the world.
In days gone by all tomatoes were "heirloom" tomatoes. They were bred for size and flavor. Families selected the best tasting and biggest tomatoes, saved the seed, and replanted it the following year. In this method the best tomatoes were preserved and handed down from generation to generation, improving year after year.
These days, however, commercial "progress" has found ways to breed "better" tomatoes, hybrid tomatoes that keep longer on the grocer's shelves and survive the bumpy trip to market with less bruises. The problem is: taste is no longer a priority.
Today there is a revival afoot to get back to the old-fashioned tomato taste that was once the norm, to revive the tomato varieties that were bred for superb taste. That's what our heirloom tomatoes are all about.
At Tomato-Bob's, we've conducted in-depth research to find the best tasting heirloom tomatoes. We've grown a large number of the best heirloom tomatoes in the world. We've conducted countless taste tests and hand selected our favorites for you.
3-Foot Tall Plants
Since quality heirloom tomatoes can sometimes take a little longer to develop their superb taste, here at Tomato-Bob's we start them extra early.
Our tomato plants are 3 months old. They are 3 feet or more tall. They are blossoming and setting tomatoes. They are thriving in our naturally lit greenhouse in extra large 8-inch wide, 2-gallon pots filled with our specially formulated potting soil. We give them a head start so you can get more tomatoes in our short northern growing season.
Just an old-fashioned guy offering old-fashioned tomato plants that grow tomatoes with old-fashioned taste that most "young folk" ain't never experienced!
